Mr-Glass Sliding & Patio Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Houston, with most roller and handle replacements running $180 – $390 installed and full panel replacements typically landing between $1,400 and $3,200 depending on glass package and size. Same-day service is available for most in-stock hardware, and we carry the common failure parts on our trucks so we’re not ordering blind. The way most Houston homeowners discover a Mr-Glass door part has failed is the same every time: the door starts dragging on the track, the handle goes loose, or the latch stops catching cleanly, and suddenly a door that used to glide one-handed needs a hip check to close.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass sliding and patio doors come in a few series that share some hardware but not all of it, and the compatibility gotcha we see most often in Houston is on the roller assemblies. The Mr-Glass SG series and the PG series use different roller wheel diameters: the SG runs a 1-1/4-inch concave roller, while the PG series uses a 1-3/8-inch flat roller, and they are not interchangeable even though the housings look near-identical at a glance. We match parts by pulling the existing roller or handle and checking the stamp, not by squinting at a photo, because the wrong roller will bind on the track and eat the rail within a year.
You can identify your Mr-Glass door most reliably by the sticker on the top or bottom rail of the active panel. The model number usually starts with “MG-” followed by a series letter and a size code, and that sticker matters more than the year the house was built. We have seen plenty of Houston homes where the original door was swapped before the current owner bought the place, and assuming “it’s whatever the builder put in” has caused more than one wrong-part order.
For rollers, handles, and lock sets, we install OEM Mr-Glass parts whenever they’re available in a reasonable window. When they’re not, we carry aftermarket equivalents from two manufacturers whose tolerances we have verified on real Houston installations, and we will tell you plainly which one we’re quoting and why. We do not put a part on your door that we would not put on a door in our own shop.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- Door drags or requires two hands to move. The roller wheels have flat-spotted or the bearings have worn out, and that friction is grinding the track down with every slide. This is far and away the most common Mr-Glass door failure we see in Houston, especially on doors that face west and cook in the afternoon heat.
- Handle is loose, floppy, or no longer springs back. The internal return spring has snapped inside the mortise lock, or the set screw on the handle has backed out. A floppy handle that still works today will stop working entirely, usually at the worst possible moment.
- Latch catches but door still moves an inch or two. The latch is not seating into the strike plate, either because the strike plate has shifted or the roller has dropped on one corner. That small movement means the door is no longer sealing, and your AC bill will notice before you do.
- Visible metal shavings or grit on the bottom track. That’s the roller wheel or the track rail physically wearing away. It only gets more expensive to fix the longer it runs, because a worn track eventually means replacing the track, not just the rollers.
- Condensation or fogging inside the insulated glass unit. The seal around the glass has failed and moisture is getting inside the panes. You cannot wipe this clean, and the only real fix is a new IGU, which we order to spec and install into your existing Mr-Glass frame.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Mr-Glass sliding and patio door part replacement costs in Houston, installed:
- Roller assembly (per door panel): $180 – $290 installed, including both rollers and track cleaning.
- Handle and mortise lock set: $160 – $260 installed, depending on finish and whether the lock body needs replacing.
- Strike plate and latch adjustment: $90 – $140 installed.
- Insulated glass unit replacement in existing Mr-Glass frame: $600 – $1,500, depending on glass package and Low-E coating.
- Full Mr-Glass door panel replacement: $1,400 – $3,200 installed, sized and ordered to match your existing frame and track.
Every one of those prices is a written quote before we start, delivered the Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. No revised invoice at the door. Ever. Our workmanship warranty covers the installed part and the labor for a full year, and if something we touched goes wrong on a repair, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door rollers and handles are not in the high-danger category like garage springs or electrical, but there are still ways for a weekend project to go sideways. The big one is lifting the panel out of the track: a glass door panel weighs 80 to 160 pounds, and if it slips while you’re muscling it out of the frame alone, it will shatter, damage the track, or both. The second one is ordering by guesswork, which usually ends with a roller that does not fit and a return shipping fight with a stranger online.
What you can safely check yourself: clean the bottom track with a vacuum and a stiff brush, because Houston pollen and grit are brutal on slider tracks, and that alone extends roller life. Check for loose screws on the handle and the strike plate. Lubricate rollers with a dry silicone spray only, never WD-40, which turns the track into a dust magnet. If the door still drags after that, call us at (325) 326-4211 and we’ll bring the parts with us based on what you describe over the phone.
FAQs
In Houston’s heat and humidity, most Mr-Glass rollers last 8 to 12 years before they flat-spot or the bearings seize, and doors facing direct western sun tend to fail on the shorter end of that range because the thermal stress breaks the nylon wheels down faster. If your door has a concrete or rough-textured track, shave a year or two off that estimate. The good news is roller replacement is a fast job: call (325) 326-4211 and we can usually have it gliding again the same day.
Yes, in most cases. Rollers, handles, locks, strike plates, and glass units inside the existing frame are all repairable, and we fix those far more often than we replace full doors. The only time we recommend a full replacement is when the door frame itself is rotted, the track is deeply grooved, or the door no longer meets Houston’s energy code for a conditioned space.
A roller swap runs an hour or less per panel, a handle and lock set takes about 45 minutes, and an insulated glass unit replacement in an existing frame runs two to four hours including cleanup. Our techs show up with the parts in hand whenever possible, which is why we ask about the model sticker when you call.
We keep the common Mr-Glass rollers, handles, and lock sets stocked on our trucks and in our Houston shop, along with parts for PGT, CGI, and CWS doors from our other manufacturer lines. For odd-size glass units or uncommon series hardware, we order directly and get honest lead times, which in Houston is usually three to ten business days.
